Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation staff and job seekers had a blast helping out at the East Newman Street Blitz organised by Newman Futures in August. We put our trusted trailer to use in order to fill seven skip bins with mattresses, fridges, washing machines, couches and household waste.
Over two days we flexed our muscles alongside the Newman Futures team and 80 residents and volunteers to make this a huge clean up success story!
The Street Blitz got even more exciting when West Coast Eagles AFL player Jarrod Cameron dropped in to join us in our plight to clean up the streets of East Newman.
Jarrod said; “I grew up in Newman and my family still live here, so it’s really great to come back here and be able to give back and help out the local community.”
Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation staff also took containers to Containers for Change, on behalf of residents who were collecting them but unable to get to the depot and passed on the funds to them.
We loved being part of such a rewarding, collaborative event working alongside the teams from Newman Women’s Shelter, BHP, Mission Australia, Pilbara Community Legal Service, the Department of Communities, Shire of East Pilbara, WA Police, Cleanaway and the Pilbara Regiment Australian Army.
