AAC continues to provide outreach servicing to a number of local communities here in the Pilbara.
We recently contracted Naturally Nic, a qualified nutritionist and wellness coach who also works at the Well Women’s Centre here in Hedland, to deliver a five-week program called “Healthy Eating on a Budget” out at Yanderra Community.
This activity addresses barriers such as diabetes, budgeting, lack of knowledge of healthy food options/unhealthy eating and drinking, and safe food handling. Jobseekers complete an online Safe Food Handling course, are taken on a Coles shopping tour where they are exposed to viewing the nutritional value of products and how they have an impact on their health, and learn a variety of healthy recipes that can feed a family of up to 6 and participate in making them.
After attending 5 sessions they are given all of the ingredients for all of the recipes they were taught at no cost to them. This activity also gives jobseekers that are wanting to find work within Hospitality the skills and abilities required to apply for those roles.
