At Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation, we believe every step forward is worth celebrating—especially when it comes to helping community members unlock their potential. Sebastian’s story is one of perseverance, growth, and community support working at its best. What began with the need for basic identification has grown into a journey of self-empowerment, training, and employment.
From Identification to Opportunity
When Sebastian first connected with AAC, he faced a common but significant barrier: he had no form of identification. With the support of our team, Sebastian successfully obtained his birth certificate—a critical first step that opened the door to services and employment pathways.
While he had previously held a provisional driver’s licence, it had been cancelled due to unpaid fines. AAC helped Sebastian navigate the fine repayment process, enabling him to work toward reinstating his licence—another important milestone in regaining independence.
Building Skills and Experience
During this period, Sebastian joined the TPRJ (Targeted Participation and Regional Jobs) program in the Jigalong community. This provided him with structured work experience, helping him strengthen his confidence and workplace skills.
As he continued to progress, Sebastian completed both his White Card and Fire Attack Equipment Training—key qualifications for employment in industries such as construction and mining. With his full licence reinstated and his fines cleared, Sebastian was ready for the next step.
Pathway to Employment
AAC supported Sebastian in his transition to formal employment, referring him to Greatland Gold Telfa. Through this referral, he successfully secured a contract with Kooboolong, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his life.
Sebastian’s success is a powerful example of what can be achieved when dedicated individuals are supported by the right programs and services.
Sebastian’s journey from identification barriers to mine-site employment showcases the importance of holistic support and community-driven solutions. His determination, combined with the resources provided by AAC, highlights the positive outcomes possible when we invest in people.
