Record Month for Containers for Change Boosts Local Economy

Record Achievement: 455,534 Containers Processed

In an outstanding display of teamwork and dedication, Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation’s (AAC) Containers for Change program has set a new record for the month of March, sorting and counting an impressive 455,534 containers. This remarkable achievement has contributed $45,553 back into the local economies of Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Marble Bar, and surrounding areas, providing a much-needed boost to these communities.

Looking Ahead: Preparing for Peak Periods

As we bid farewell to summer and welcome the autumn months, the Containers for Change team is already preparing for the next peak period, with heightened activity expected around Easter and Anzac Day. To help businesses and community groups better prepare, Containers for Change is offering local organizations the opportunity to actively engage with the program, enhance community involvement, and maximize the environmental and economic benefits of recycling.

Benefits to Local Residents and Businesses

What makes this record even more significant is its lasting impact on the local population. Many of the refunds generated from returned containers benefit local residents, business owners, and, most importantly, help retain funds within the Pilbara region.

Empowering Local Workers: Skills for the Future

The dedicated teams involved in the sorting and counting process play a pivotal role in this success. These roles provide immediate income, while the accredited training offered through the program equips participants with valuable skills for future employment opportunities, improving their long-term career prospects.

AAC’s Commitment to Empowerment and Self-Sufficiency

The Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation (AAC), which oversees the Tom Price Containers for Change Refund Point, continues to drive its mission of increasing the self-sufficiency of Aboriginal people. Through on-the-job training, AAC ensures that workers not only thrive in their current roles but also gain qualifications that will support them in future career steps.

More Than Just Recycling: Building Future Capabilities

“This is more than just recycling; it’s about building future capabilities for our workers,” said Containers for Change Coordinator Jeremy Hamilton. “We’re incredibly proud of the progress made, both in terms of environmental benefits and the positive social impact on our community.”

A Program that Drives Economic Growth and Environmental Stewardship

The Containers for Change initiative is part of a broader effort to protect the environment while supporting local communities. As the program continues to expand, both the community and the environment will continue to reap the benefits. Containers for Change is more than just a recycling program—it is a driving force for economic growth, job creation, and environmental stewardship.
