At Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation, we believe in the power of support, opportunity, and perseverance. Jake’s story is a shining example of how the right guidance and personal determination can open doors to a brighter future. His journey toward independence and meaningful employment is not only inspiring, but also a reminder of what’s possible when young people are empowered to succeed.
From Learner to Licensed: Jake Takes the Wheel
Jake joined AAC in August 2024, eager to build a future and grow both personally and professionally. One of the earliest goals he set was to obtain his driver’s license—a critical milestone for independence in remote communities. With support from our Learn to Drive Program, Jake passed his theory test and committed to weekly manual driving lessons. His confidence grew with each lesson, and at the Newman Open Day, he successfully completed his Practical Driving Assessment. Jake is now the proud holder of his Probationary 1 license.
Building Skills for the Future
After securing his license, Jake’s focus shifted toward employment. With AAC’s guidance, he connected with local training providers to gain the certifications needed for work in the mechanical trade. He showed up consistently, applied himself fully, and completed the required training—earning the qualifications needed to take the next big step.
A New Chapter with Maali Mechanics
Today, we are thrilled to celebrate Jake’s latest achievement: employment with Maali Mechanics as a Trade Assistant. This role is more than a job—it’s a result of months of hard work, resilience, and support from his community and AAC. Jake now walks with confidence, pride, and purpose, demonstrating what can be achieved when people believe in themselves and are backed by the right support systems.
Jake’s story reflects the impact of coordinated support, community engagement, and a young person’s determination to succeed. His journey stands as a proud milestone for AAC and a beacon of possibility for others.
