Empowering Futures, One Skill at a Time

We enrolled eight of our jobseekers in two hands-on training programs: Skid Steer Operation Skill Set and the Roller Skill Set.

Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation is proud to support local jobseekers on their journey toward meaningful employment.. As part of our commitment to employment development, we enrolled eight of our jobseekers: Wesley, Jamie, Matthew, Chris, Kane, Zac, Gerald and Beasley in two hands-on training programs: Skid Steer Operation Skill Set and the Roller Skill Set delivered in Tom Price through North Regional TAFE.

These courses commenced on August 12th, 2025 and went over three training blocks with participants building both practical skills and personal confidence. This initiative will equip our jobseekers with the tools they need to access real job opportunities and create stronger futures for themselves and their communities.

Both the Skid Steer Loader Operations Skill Set and Roller Skill set courses offered practical skills and knowledge required to safely operate a bobcat/skid steer loader and roller for compacting materials in the civil construction industry. Our jobseekers learnt how to conduct pre-operational checks, Operate the machines to move and place or compact surfaces, Use different attachments, perform routine maintenance and follow safety procedures on site. All participants attended each day with a strong focus and dedication to learning and building their skills which shows their commitment to being job-ready and equipped with employer desirable skills.

Throughout their learning journey, our jobseekers faced many barriers such as lack of confidence in their learning capabilities and the courage to participate within the class. These barriers were certainly overcome and our participants showed a strong focus in committing themselves to learning, finding themselves empowered to upskill and are now better equipped to pursue possible employment opportunities. They have obtained desirable skills that are predominantly used within daily operations of any civil construction company, their journey was nothing short of an easy one but with the support of one another, identifying barriers and overcoming them, our participants have completed their learning with a commitment to succeed.

Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation are beyond proud of our jobseekers who showed a strong commitment to their skill development, attended every day of training with happiness and determination to learn for the betterment of themselves. To Wesley, Jamie, Matthew, Chris, Kane, Zac, Gerald and Beasley; every step forward brings you closer – build your skills, grow your confidence, and unlock your future!
