Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation kicked off an exciting new initiative aimed at opening up employment and training opportunities for people in the Pilbara region. As a not-for-profit based in the Pilbara, AAC is all about helping individuals, especially those who haven’t had many job opportunities in the past, find sustainable work.
One area that’s generating a lot of interest is the engineering and fabrication industry. Many local job seekers are keen to learn more, but haven’t had the chance to really explore what’s involved. To change that, AAC suggested organizing weekly visits to Bennco Engineering, a local leader in the field in the Tom Price area, so people can get a closer look at the industry and the career paths it offers.
The goal of these visits is simple: give participants an insight into Bennco’s work, showcase the types of jobs available, and offer a tour of the workshop so everyone can see the environment and safety measures in action. On top of that, AAC has some exciting community projects in mind, like extending a shade structure and fixing up a playground cover, which would allow participants to get hands-on experience while improving the Wakathuni community.
By connecting job seekers with industry experts and real-world projects, AAC hopes to create lasting career opportunities and drive positive change for everyone involved.
