A Fresh Start for Community Bingo

In Jigalong, AAC Jigalong mentor and Community reignited their much-loved Bingo sessions, bringing a spark of joy back to the community. Four dedicated community ladies attended, and what made this session even more special was that two of our Job Seekers (JS) took the lead in running the event. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to build their confidence and develop leadership skills.

The session featured ten fiercely competitive games, filled with excitement and friendly banter. Laughter echoed through the room as participants engaged in the fun-filled activity, which was followed by a shared lunch. These social gatherings play a crucial role in encouraging community connections, particularly for our Mature aged, who eagerly anticipate Bingo every Wednesday.

A Huge Success for the Op Shop Launch

Friday marked another milestone as the Community launched their first-ever Op Shop, an initiative that has been months in the making. With tireless efforts to collect donations from Perth to Newman and many places in between, the community finally had access to an affordable and sustainable shopping option.

The response was overwhelming, with community members enthusiastically supporting the initiative. The demand was so great that people are already asking when the next Op Shop Day will be! This strong engagement highlights the importance of accessible clothing and household items for families in the area.

Expanding Community Support with Roy Hill

To ensure the longevity of the Op Shop, we reached out to Roy Hill, who have been incredibly supportive. They have put an internal shout-out to their employees, encouraging them to donate clothing and other essential items. This partnership will further strengthen our ability to provide affordable goods to the community while promoting sustainability through recycling and reusing donated items.

These two events showcased the power of community spirit, teamwork, and collaboration. The success of Bingo and the Op Shop highlights how small initiatives can create meaningful social interactions, build confidence, and bring positive change to the community. We look forward to continuing these programs and encourage everyone to get involved.

Stay tuned for future Bingo sessions and Op Shop events! If you’d like to support the initiative, consider donating clothing or volunteering your time. For more information, visit the Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation website.
