At Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation (AAC), we are dedicated to helping Aboriginal communities grow through employment and training opportunities. One of our proudest achievements is the Health Sector Work Ready program, designed to give local Aboriginal jobseekers the skills they need to succeed in healthcare.
This program, run in partnership with Embrace Healthcare Solutions (EHS), is helping build a strong healthcare workforce while respecting and honouring the culture of our communities.
Practical Skills for Real Jobs
Over eight weeks, participants learn important skills across areas like disability support, nursing, and mental health care. They also gain hands-on experience, working closely with healthcare professionals. At the end of the program, participants receive a Community Support Skill Set certificate, which prepares them for entry-level jobs in healthcare.
Cultural Understanding at the Core
A key part of the program is cultural awareness. Participants learn how to deliver respectful and culturally appropriate care. This is especially important when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. By focusing on cultural understanding, we’re helping create a healthcare workforce that respects and supports our people.
Connecting to Opportunities
The program also helps job seekers build valuable connections with industry professionals and mentors. These relationships open doors to future job opportunities, giving participants the confidence and support they need to succeed in their careers.
A Partnership for the Future
Our partnership with Embrace Healthcare Solutions shows how working together can create lasting change. By combining our strengths, we are building a healthcare system in the Pilbara that is strong, inclusive, and ready for the future.
At AAC, we believe that investing in our people means investing in a better future for everyone. The Health Sector Work Ready program is just one way we’re helping our communities grow and thrive.
