Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation teamed up with the Shire of Ashburton to deliver a vibrant school holiday program at Doug Talbot Park in Tom Price. The day offered a safe, supportive, and exciting environment for local children to enjoy their break from school.
A Day of Culture, Creativity, and Community Spirit
Held at Doug Talbot Park, the event brought the community together in a relaxed and joyful setting. School-aged children of all ages took part in hands-on activities designed to keep them engaged, learning, and having fun during the school holidays.
The AAC Project Team led a traditional damper-making session, offering kids a delicious introduction to bush cooking. At the same time, painting activities provided a creative outlet for self-expression, with colourful artworks coming to life throughout the park.
Local Support Making a Real Difference
Two Paraburdoo-based job seekers Susan Lawrence and Kerry Carter were on hand to assist with the day’s activities. Their support ensured that children were engaged, supervised, and encouraged throughout the event. Their contribution highlights the positive role local community members can play in making these programs a success.
Building Skills, Confidence, and Lasting Memories
The school holiday program is designed to offer more than just fun. It provides a safe, educational, and supportive environment that promotes physical activity, creative learning, and personal development. Through these programs, children build important life and social skills while enjoying positive interactions with peers and adults alike.
Events like this also give parents peace of mind, knowing their children are participating in meaningful and enriching experiences during the holiday break.
Strengthening Community Through Shared Experiences
The success of the school holiday program in Tom Price reflects what can be achieved when local organisations and community members come together. By creating a space where children feel safe, valued, and inspired, the Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation and the Shire of Ashburton have helped nurture not only young minds but stronger community connections. With continued collaboration and commitment, both organisations look forward to delivering more impactful programs that empower children, support families, and celebrate the spirit of community across the region.
