JOB DESCRIPTION:

The unprecedented increase in unemployment, a harsh reality of the COVID19 pandemic has caused a subsequent increase in our caseload size. In order to ensure that we provide as many means as possible for young people to get the support they need; we are expanding Employment Services to include a Youth Engagement Officer.

As our Youth Engagement Officer, you will be part of a dedicated team supporting young people on their journey to gain sustainable employment.

The successful candidate will be experienced in working with young people. You will be passionate about re-engaging these jobseekers through the fostering of positive and professional relationships.

You will be flexible and able to adapt to the many and diverse needs of working with young people. Due to the nature of this service, some out of hours work on Saturday and evening work is expected.

The Youth Engagement Officer will be required to form working partnerships with other service providers to support young people on their journey towards employment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will provide case management and support to young people to seek to engage in further education, support services and employment. You will be comfortable working one on one with young people as well as being able to assist in facilitating group activities and skills development sessions.

Overseeing of Extra-Curricular Activities – Participate in general activities including camps, excursions, mental health days, and coaching sessions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous youth engagement experience
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Possess the ability to develop and foster business networks
  • Time management skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Demonstrate strong administration skills and IT literacy, data entry and typing skills, Word, Excel and Outlook experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently (with minimal supervision) and as part of a team
  • Must be fully vaccinated to apply

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desirable: Formal tertiary or vocational qualifications to a minimum of a Certificate IV qualification from a nationally recognised course of study in one of the following fields: counselling, psychology, social work, mental health, youth work, Indigenous studies or a related area.
  • Current Driver License
  • Senior First Aid certificate or willingness to gain it is expected
  • As part of our employment screening process, you will be required to undertake a National criminal history check and a pre-employment medical.
  • In addition, there is a requirement to possess a current Working with Children check or apply if you do not already hold one. It is unlawful for prohibited persons to apply for work with children, and, as such, prohibited persons cannot apply for this role.
